Closure at Student Recreation and Wellness Center at UNLV

Hi badminton fans.

Unfortunately, due to water pipe rapture at Student Recreation and Wellness Center at UNLV, badminton is closed there. We spoke to the personele at that facility and we have been told  that it will take at least 3-4 weeks before Badninton reopens. Pity!

Meeting with Silver Springs Recreation Center Representative

Hello badminton fans. Looks like we are another step closer to be able to play badminton in Henderson, NV! Today, I met with the recreation services supervisor at Silver Springs Recreation Center to discuss further details. They are still open to offer badminton plays soon. Proposed starting hours were Mondays 10am-noon and Fridays 8am-10am with rather slim changes of anything occurring after 5pm on weekdays. The proposed fee would be $2 per participant. It could be a good start. The more of us, the better the chances of negotiating better hours. We've come to a consensus of what sort of net is needed. They want to purchase a badminton set whose poles fit in the same "sockets" of existing volleyballs setup. Lines will be added of course. If anybody knows a vendor or a place to which we could point out recreation center officials to purchase such badminton setup, let us know. Below is the picture from UNLV that depicts it. When could we start? In December'23 if everything goes well. Thank you!

Booking courts. Does anybody know more?

We have been asked an interesting question recently: Is it possible to book an individual court in Las Vegas, NV valley? Old Las Vegas club, after the pandemic, used to be operating solely on court reservation basis. It's not so simple anymore. It's possible to book all 3 courts in Desert Breeze location but as far as we know, it's not really possible at UNLV. If anybody knows more, please share.

Update on Silver Springs Center facility

We have received an email from Recreation Services Coordinator asking details about what sort of accommodations we would require to allow for badminton play in Silver Springs Recreation Center. We have sent rather detailed response as to what court, net requirements are and what are the most preferred dates and hours based on survey results. We hope this means Silver Springs Center can offer us badminton courts starting August 2023.

Update on badminton facility in Henderson

We have just received an update from City of Henderson representative:

"At the current time, the City is determining if the field house will be managed by the Parks and Rec Department, contracted out to a private company to manage, or shared management between Parks and Rec and a private company. We want to find space for badminton! Summer is hard with our summer camps taking up almost all of the facility gym time, but we are hopeful to get you time at Silver Springs once the kids go back to school."

Thank you City of Henderson for having us, badminton enthusiasts, on your mind. There is hope.
